In 1989,
QCDO received a grant from the Lilly Endowment to assess the
County's housing needs and develop a strategy for meeting
those needs. Since that time, QCDO's Housing Program has
successfully obtained Home Preservation Grants (HPG's) which
have aided families in the repair and rehabilitation of
their homes.

Program Goal
The goal of the program is to assure the safety, health, and
well-being of families, to alleviate overcrowding within the
home, and to improve the quality of life.
Accomplishments
-
The program has successfully renovated over twenty homes
since 1999, most of which needed significant
rehabilitation. Service areas included Quitman, Panola,
and Tallahatchie counties.
-
As of April, 2001, the Organization has purchased and
renovated 12 single family homes and one duplex.
-
December 2000 - a 24 unit LIHTC project known as
the Clint Handy Estate was completed:
This development represents the first new construction
built in Sledge, Mississippi in more than thirteen
years. The Estate consists of sixteen-three
bedroom and eight-two bedroom duplex apartments.
Through a grant from the Mississippi Home Corporation (MHC),
the housing program offers Home Buyer Education, post
purchase and pre-purchase counseling, financial management,
and other programs that will enable clients to become
successful homeowners.
The demand for decent affordable housing is a continuous
problem in our community. This problem is what drives the
organization to commit to the elimination of overcrowding in
the home, eliminate homelessness, and to help families in
the community develop a sense of well-being.
